About the Role
Innovative company is looking for a technical manager to oversee their CASE portfolio with a focus on paints and coatings. This role requires a recognized innovator in coating science and materials technology who can translate emerging trends, customer challenges, and regulatory shifts into breakthrough formulations and enabling technologies. They will define and execute the technology roadmap, lead high‑impact innovation initiatives, and drive the development of next‑generation coating systems that deliver superior performance, sustainability, and commercial differentiation.
Key Responsibilities
• Technology Vision & Industry Leadership • Define and lead the technology roadmap for paints and coatings within the CASE portfolio, aligning innovation priorities with business strategy and market opportunities.
• Serve as a technical leader, influencing internal strategy and contributing to industry discussions on the future of coating technologies.
• Lead the development of next‑generation Paint and Coating systems, mostly focused on resins but possible expansion to other additives.
• Champion innovation programs from concept generation through laboratory development, pilot validation, and commercial launch. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to accelerate the commercialization of innovative technologies.
• Customer & Market Engagement • Engage directly with key customers through technical visits, innovation workshops, and collaborative development programs.
• Support commercial teams with technical positioning, value propositions, and strategic opportunity evaluation.
• Build trusted relationships with customers as a technical advisor and innovation partner.
• Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and technical forums, strengthening the organization’s reputation as a technology leader.
Qualifications
• Master’s or PhD in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline.
• 8–15+ years of experience in the paints, coatings, or CASE industries.
• Demonstrated success developing innovative coating formulations or materials technologies with a proven track record of leading innovation from concept through commercialization.
• Deep knowledge of coating components including binders, pigments, additives, and functional materials.
• Expertise in formulation science, film formation, curing technologies, and application methods.
• Strong understanding of sustainability trends including waterborne technologies, low‑VOC systems, and bio‑based materials.
• Ability to influence both technical and commercial decision‑making. Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to customers, leadership teams, and industry audiences.
• Application knowledge of P&C additives, chemical knowledge (synthesis).
• No company relocation offered at this time. Candidate can live in Kitchener, Guelph, Hamilton or Mississauga for reasonable commute.
