Business Unit Manager: Coatings

The IMCD Group is a global leader in sales, marketing and distribution of specialty chemicals and ingredients. With a network of global locations and warehouses in EMEA, America and the Asia-Pacific region, IMCD offers its partners tailor-made solutions for supra-regional distribution management. With its headquarters in Rotterdam, IMCD has operations in more than 60 countries.

IMCD South Africa is looking for a driven, meticulous person to lead our Coatings Business Unit by developing and driving sales strategies for optimal growth in Sub Saharan Africa. The successful candidate will be based at the IMCD‘s Randburg office reporting into the Managing Director.

Person Profile: Targeted Skills & Capabilities

The ideal candidate will:-

• Have a Bachelors degree or higher, in Science and/or Commerce with between 10 – 15 years relevant sales experience.


Proven experience of raw material requirements in the Coatings and Construction Industry.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Be resilient, and able to multi-task and work under pressure.


Be solution focused.


Have high independence and self-motivation.


Be computer literate.


Experience in a multinational company on operational level will be an advantage.


Enjoy travel.

The position is responsible for:

• Leading and developing the Coatings and Construction team in Sub Saharan Africa to achieve the Company’s strategic goals in these regions.


Managing all activities in the Coatings and Construction laboratories, by coordinating project workflows and optimizing resource utilization to ensure desired outcomes.

• Accountable for monitoring and quantifying revenue generated through laboratory projects, using data driven insights to improve performance, support strategic decision making and drive continuous operational growth.


Preparing the Annual Business Unit Budget and accept responsibility for attaining same. Monitoring monthly progress against both income and cost budget.


Co-ordinating sales activities by leading, training and motivating the sales team.


Market intelligence: Monitor market trends and competitor activities for your area of responsibility.


Purchasing: Guiding Principal Managers to ensure an optimal stock holding.


Development and implementation of principal management strategy.


Market Development: Continually encourage the development of new products in the market and monitor and develop sales strategies for these new products. In addition to the above, you will be expected to promote the Company’s activities and image both locally and abroad and to serve the interests of the Company and its Principals to the best of your ability at all times.

Expected Qualification/Education:

Degree in Chemistry or relevant Sciences. An additional business degree would be an advantage.

Work Experience:

Ideally more than 15 years of work experience with increasing responsibility in a reputed Coatings / Construction business. B2B experience is an advantage.

Primary Job Location:

275 Oak Avenue, Ferndale, Randburg

Travel:

Around 40%, as needed to the various regions
