Location: Kitchener-Waterloo / Cambridge / Guelph (local preferred)
Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (Not an Employee)
Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per month
Compensation: Hourly, contract-based, dependent on experience

About Us

We are a small and growing IT start-up based in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. We’re seeking an experienced, dependable bookkeeper/accountant to provide light, ongoing bookkeeping support on a contract basis. The workload is predictable and low-volume, making this an excellent opportunity for someone seeking supplementary income.

About the Engagement

This is a very part-time contractor role with consistent monthly work. It is well suited for:
• Retired bookkeepers or accountants
• Professionals on maternity or parental leave
• Individuals with a full-time accounting/bookkeeping role looking for a small, flexible side gig
• Independent bookkeepers adding one low-maintenance client

Scope of Work
• Record and categorize monthly transactions
• Bank and credit card reconciliations
• Track accounts payable and receivable
• Prepare basic monthly financial reports (e.g., Profit & Loss)
• Assist with HST/GST filings
• Assist with Payroll process
• Assist with employee expenses and reimbursements process
• Maintain clean, well-organized digital financial records
• Coordinate with our external accountant for year-end support

Tools & Systems
• Experience with QuickBooks Online (preferred)
• Comfortable working with cloud-based tools and digital documentation

Qualifications
• Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
• Familiarity with Canadian bookkeeping practices
• Startup or IT industry experience is an asset, but not required
• CPA designation not required

Work Arrangement
• Fully flexible schedule — work can be completed at any time during the month
• Approximately 10 hours per month
• Mostly remote
• Long-term, ongoing contract relationship

Contractor Requirements
• Must be able to work as an independent contractor
• Responsible for own taxes, remittances, and insurance (if applicable)
• Able to invoice monthly for services rendered

Job Types: Part-time, Casual, Freelance

Pay: $20.00-$50.00 per hour
